The South West branch of the SYP was officially opened in 2018 in the South West of the UK. This committee was the sixth regional branch to open, alongside London, Oxford, North, Scotland and Ireland. It covers Avon, Cornwall, Devon, Dorset, Gloucestershire, Herefordshire, Somerset and Wiltshire.
Jo de Vries, the first Chair of the new branch until 2020 and founder of Conker House Publishing, believes it’s time for the publishing industry to catch up with the creativity and innovation happening outside of London and Oxford. SYP South West will create transparency by opening up opportunities for publishers in the area to gain access to wider conversations. The aim is to tackle the ‘disconnect’ between regional areas in the publishing industry, says Jo.
