A good site explaining from first hand experience how to start off freelancing as a proofreader and copy-editor. The web owner has also written a book with excellent reviews on Amazon, Freelance proofreading and copy-editing – a guide. Have a go on his online proofreading test to see if you’d make the grade!

The Bookseller
A must-read for all those interested in the industry! Limited (yet useful) information is available to the casual browser; registered users receive full articles, the archive and weekly careers emails. Scottish Publishers Association
This site is proof that not all publishers are in London. It’s member directory is useful if you need a list of publishers to research. They also put on various training sessions.

OxMedia Network
If you’re interested in a creative industry but aren’t sure which one, this site could help give you an overall impression of what’s about in Oxfordshire.

Institute of Paper Printing and Publishing
Does exactly what is says. They do a 10-part course that includes visits to a paper mill, a paper testing laboratory and a publisher.
