The Society of Young Publishers' careers conference will take place at Oxford Brookes University on Saturday 10th November. This great event provides lectures, workshops and training delivered by key industry professionals on various aspects and skills vital to your publishing career.
This year's theme is Ethical Publishing, inspired by the growing demand on publishers to be environmentally and socially responsible. The Keynote Debate will focus on this topical issue and panellists for the debate will include Simon Juden, Chief Executive of the Publishers Association and member of the Publishers Association/Booksellers Association joint Environmental Action Group (EAG) and Sarah Totterdell, Head of Publishing (Campaigns and Policy Division), Oxfam UK.
Upon registering for the conference, attendees are invited to choose three workshops from the following options: Marketing; Magazine Publishing; Children's Publishing; Literary Agents; Publishing Career Success; Journals and a drop-in session where delegates can speak to a variety of industry professionals on a one-to-one basis.
Speakers and hosts will include: Alison Baverstock, Marketing Consultant, whose first book, How to Market Books, is often referred to as the 'bible of book marketing'; Tim Pears, Author of five novels, including In the Place of Fallen Leaves and Blenheim Orchard; Pat White, Literary Agent and Director of Rogers, Coleridge & White Ltd. with almost 40 years experience in the industry; ... and many more!
All attendees will enjoy a buffet lunch (included in the price), as well as tea and coffee, and are automatically entered into a free prize draw with a chance to win some great books.
This just in! Gordon Graham, Editor Emeritus of LOGOS, journal of the world book community, will be presenting a LOGOS display during the lunch break. Conference delegates will enjoy a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to speak one-to-one with the founder of this important journal, which is recommended reading on all university publishing courses. Mr Graham will also be happy to speak with delegates about his long and distinguished career. His attendence at the conference is a wonderful addition to an already outstanding conference programme!
