The Society of Young Publishers (UK), in partnership with The Publishers Assocation, and Junge Verlagsmenschen (Germany), will be hosting an International "meet up" at Frankfurt Book Fair, to discuss ways in which young publishing professionals across the globe can work together at top trade events and beyond. It follows the launch of an international network this year at London Book Fair, at which 60 publishers from 19 countries participated.
The hour-long session, which will take its queue from the free-flowing and interactive “unconference” format, will include a brief presentation and update on the progress of young publisher networks in Europe and the UK, followed by discussion on practical measures needed to make the International SYP network a long-term, valuable platform for the industry. This is a chance to enlist friends, colleagues, and of course, employers!
Other possible themes up for discussion include:
- the impact of continued economic challenges both locally and globally on jobs and business practice
- progress on fair royalty structures as they apply to digital platforms
- career progression, the challenges and opportunities
- young publishing networks – keys to successful leadership and growth
- ebooks, digital platforms, and potential innovation in the book industry
By the end of the hour we aim to have a series of "action points" or goals required to achieve:
a) An online platform that can be "home" to an International SYP network
b) The continued development of voluntary networks around the world
