The first International SYP Conference will be at London Book Fair, April 21 2009, and will discuss ways in which young publishers from around the world can work together to increase our impact at Book Fairs. We will have an engaging session that will show how the UK's long-lasting SYP model (60 years so far!) can be adapted in other countries. We will also take time to look at and talk about other networks such as ours outside of the UK.
PLACES ARE LIMITED FOR THIS EVENT: TO REGISTER CLICK HERE

The session will be Chaired by Emma House, International Director of the UK Publishers Association, and will be divided up into two main parts:
** 10.30–11.10
An introduction to the SYP and other international voluntary young publishing networks.
Confirmed speakers include:
- Henrik Ægidius, publishing consultant, Ægidius Publishing, former honorary treasurer to Forening for Forlagsfolk (Danish Association of People in Publishing), Denmark
- Chris Gruppetta, Chair of International Young Publishing Entrepreneur Award (British Council) and Director of Publishing, Merlin Library, Malta
- Gesa Jung, co-Chair of Junge Verlags Menschen (Young Professionals in Publishing), Germany
- Louise Rhind-Tutt, SYP Chair 2006 and Publicity Manager, CCV, Random House UK
- Jon Slack, SYP Chair 2008 and International SYP Co-Ordinator
** 11.10–11.20
Interval and mingling - a chance to get to know each other (quickly!)
** 11.20–12.00
Open session with everyone to discuss the possible benefits and challenges of a global young publishing network.
Overall we hope to achieve the following:
• Understand the current status of young publishing networks in the UK and other countries
• For everyone to share information about the publishing environment in their country, and to discuss the possibilities of a local young publishing network
• Discuss other initiatives that may benefit the network, and look ahead to a planned conference at Frankfurt Book Fair
• Agree to the structure of a new online networking forum
• Provide an open, friendly space for making new contacts with colleagues around the world!
As places here are limited, pre-registration with the SYP is essential. International vistors are encouraged to attend and help make this a truly global event. In the UK, priority will be given to SYP members who work with colleagues based outside the UK.
